This week we had a guest speaker Jessie Miller from Mediated Reality come to the class to teach us about how to use social media as future teachers. I am quite cautious with my digital footprint. All my social media accounts are private. What I found the most interesting though is that it is best to use BC Based or Canada based software to communicate with students. I did not know this prior to his lecture and I want to keep it in mind for when I am a teacher. Jessie gave us very practical advice and shared anecdotes of teaching moments he has had while presenting in school. He also focused on AI being a useful tool and that it can create amazing things. He showed us a landscape photo created from AI.

I am personally not a fan of AI because of the environmental impacts but I think as a teacher it is something that is important to learn about and be aware of something I learned about this week is DeepSeek a Chinese AI company that is making the value of Chat GPT go down. It is cheaper than Chat GPT and making tech stocks go down. Deep Seek is also Open Source so anyone can edit or redistribute it. I was curious how the environmental impacts of these two softwares compared but I was not able to find much information.
